A RECENT increase in the number of passenger planes taking off from Manchester Airport and flying over Knutsford has been explained.
In a post on social media, the airport was asked by a member of the public to comment on the apparent increase in planes taking off over the town 'all day and night'.
A spokesman for the airport took the time to explain why they might have seen an increase in recent days.
Manchester Airport tweeted: "Like all airports we operate according to weather conditions, principally wind direction.
"To ensure safe operations, aircraft fly into the wind.
"During easterly winds, flight patterns are reversed with aircraft departing to the north-east and arriving from the south-west.
"We hope this information is useful to you and explains why you may be seeing more flights taking off over Knutsford at the moment."
Hi, like all airports we operate according to weather conditions, principally wind direction. To ensure safe operations, aircraft fly into the wind. During easterly winds, flight patterns are reversed with aircraft departing to the north-east and arriving from the south-west.
