THESE are the latest Covid-19 case numbers across Mid Cheshire.

The figures show 226 new cases were recorded in Cheshire West and Chester in the 24 hours up to 4pm today, with 316 cases recorded in Cheshire East.

This is compared to 218 new cases in Cheshire West and Chester and 295 cases in Cheshire East in a 24-hour period as of Wednesday.

The total number of cases in both boroughs now stands 41,908 in Cheshire West and 43,473 in Cheshire East.

The latest update means there have now been 1,378 cases in the last seven days in Cheshire West, giving the borough a seven-day case rate of 400.8 per 100,000 people.

There have been 1,994 cases in Cheshire East over the last week, meaning the borough’s seven-day case rate is now 515.7 per 100,000.

Nationally, there were 36,060 new Covid-19 cases across the UK in the latest 24-hour period.

When modelling the level of Covid-19 infections among different age ranges in England, the ONS said rates have increased for those in school years seven to 11, people aged 35 to 49 and those aged 70 and over.

The percentage testing positive decreased for those in school year 12 to age 24, while the trend was uncertain for those aged two to school year six, people aged 25 to 34 and those aged 50 to 69.

Around one in 15 children in school years seven to 11 are estimated to have had Covid-19 in the week to October 2 – the highest positivity rate for any age group.

The Government said a further 127 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Friday, bringing the UK total to 137,541.

Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have been 161,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.
