A HUGE outdoor space has been opened for dogs to run around and release energy.

Charlotte Smith has launched a new business called Bark Run, a dog park and exercise area on around 10 acres of land off Beggarmans Lane in Knutsford.

The fields belong to Phil and Janine Simons, parents of her partner Nic.

"They have owned the fields for around 40 years and rented them to farmers and for horses," said Charlotte, 28.

"I absolutely love being round dogs. I am a complete dog mad woman."

Charlotte started working in kennels as a teenager and learnt how to train and groom dogs.

She has competed across the country and at Crufts, where she has won countless awards.

During lockdown, one of her retrievers, Chance, developed a limp and was diagnosed with a slipped disc.

"I couldn't let him play with other dogs for fear he could become paralysed," she said."I thought it would be a good idea to create a secure area for dogs like him who are injured.

"This land has a good secure fence so dogs who struggle with nervous behaviour can relax.

"They've got plenty of room to run around without the worry of another dog jumping out or bothering them."

Charlotte has been overwhelmed by the response since she opened Bark Run two weeks ago.

"Owners have said it is a fantastic space and gives them a chance to build a really nice bond with their dogs," she said. "Everyone has been very supportive.

"It is great way for people to be able to run and walk their dog in a completely secure environment and not worry that their furry friend will come to harm.

"It's great for farmers too who complain that their livestock is coming into dangerous situations with dogs."

An obstacle course with tunnels and tyres has been created.

"There are lots for dogs to sniff and play and I have ordered more equipment to open an agility field," said Charlotte.

"Hopefully in the future we can expand, we have got more fields.

"I always enjoy working outside. This is my dream job."
