AN award-winning nursery which cuts an incredible 1.25 million blooms every year is celebrating continued success.

Chrysanthemums Direct, from Knutsford, has won a gold medal at the RHS Flower Show at Tatton to add to its coveted collection.

Parent company R. F. Lawrence and Sons, was established in 1958 by the late Reg Lawrence, who died in March 2020.

Many customers will remember meeting Reg at shows as he was always ready to talk about his love of chrysanthemums.

The avid grower took a council smallholding in Over Peover after the war with his wife Joyce and built up the site on Holmes Chapel Road which now covers 35 acres, including six acres of glasshouses.

Two sons Trevor and Nigel joined the business which runs as a family partnership and employs 10 people.

In 2008 Trevor teamed up with Don Wright and Martyn Flint to launch Chrysanthemums Direct to sell young plants grown at the nursery online.

Martyn, retail manager of Chrysanthemums Direct, said: "We are the only large scale producer of chrysanthemum in the country.

"People really enjoyed spending time in their gardens during lockdown. Everyone wanted to grow something.

"The chrysanthemum is becoming very popular. It is very easy to grow. All you need is a sunny spot and well drained soil."

The nursery is the longest established UK producer of cut flower and offers the widest range of chrysanthemums available in the UK with more than 420 varieties.
