A MAN trapped in a car after a crash with a lorry has been rescued by firefighters.

The air ambulance was called after the collision near Cottons Hotel.

Firefighters used specialist cutting equipment to release the man and passed him to the care of paramedics.

The casualty has been taken to hospital with a wrist injury and three other people have been assessed at the scene.

The A50 Manchester Road near Knutsford is still closed in both directions whilst vehicles are being recovered.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: "Officers were called just before 3pm to Manchester Road, Knutsford following reports of a collision involving HGV and black Vauxhall Zafira.

"The road is closed at the junction of Warrington Road and Mereside Road."

Three fire engines attended the incident.

An ambulance and response vehicle are still at the scene.

A spokesman for North West Ambulance NHS trust said: "We have taken one patient to hospital by road with a wrist injury. He needed to be freed from the vehicle.

"Helimed crew also attended. Three other patients have also been assessed on scene."
