LATCHFORD becomes the latest place to get a community defibrillator, as plans for another in Stockton Heath have been announced.

It comes after Christian Eriksen’s cardiac arrest during Denmark and Finland’s opening Euro 2020 game, in which he was hugely helped by the device.

The defibrillator gives a high energy electric shock to the heart of someone who is having a cardiac arrest.

The event begged the question as to just how many defibrillators are accessible around the country and in Warrington?

Howell & Co, based on Knutsford Road, have had a defibrillator in the office for around five years, but with it being unavailable when the office is shut, the decision was made to move it outside of the office for public access if it was necessary.

Simon Howell, lettings director, said: “That thing at the weekend just made me think, what happens outside of a 9-5? As a team we want to do something for the community anyway, but just actually putting something in the middle of the village where someone could grab it if they needed it any time.

“The nearest for us would have been Stockton Heath Fire Station where there is an open access there or inside the Environment Agency.

“It’s nice and bright, easy to see so people will hopefully know it’s there because that’s the biggest thing isn’t it? You don’t want it hidden out of the way. We don’t want it to be used, but we do want it to be available if it needs to be.

“It’s massive. We’ve been given an opportunity to do it so we thought ‘you know what, let’s do it’.”

The Red Lion in Stockton Heath will be the choice of venue for the other defibrillator.

Marc Smith, owner of Terrace Bistro has set up GoFundMe that numerous businesses have chipped in to. At the time of writing £790 of the £1,000 goal has been raised.
