Each week, columnist Vic Barlow shares his thoughts on all manner of topics.

Here Vic heaps praise, not only on the NHS, but on the army of people who have helped the country during this pandemic.

Is there anyone left alive in the UK who doubts what a thundering great job the NHS did during the pandemic?

Unless you have been hiding in the attic for the past 18 months you will be aware of the massive amount of fundraising that has taken place as a ‘thank you’ for the amazing commitment of doctors, nurses and all employees of our wonderful NHS.

So, can we now give them all a jolly good rest and turn the spotlight elsewhere.

I mentioned recently the total lack of appreciation for the stunning efforts of the British Army ensuring the vaccine programme kept pace. More recently the army have been involved in distributing leaflets to those reluctant to be immunised. Not a great job for anyone.

Maybe, in this new ‘woke’ world we are reluctant to praise the armed services? I don’t know. I only know we have not made much effort to do so. Let’s do it now.

What about the massive army of people sitting on those tills in the supermarkets face-to-face with thousands of anxious shoppers. Takes some guts and stamina to do that. How about all the council recycling crews who carried on collecting our rubbish despite the exposure, why not rattle a few pots and pans on a Thursday evening for them.

The postmen never let us down and all those delivery drivers bringing orders to our doors? Let’s not forget tradesmen and women fixing gas leaks/power shortages surely they deserve a cheer?

Never let us forget just how many brave working people it took to help us through this awful pandemic.
