TRAVELLERS broke onto The Heath and set up an encampment.

Seven caravans and vehicles forced their way onto the land in Knutsford at around 8.30pm last night.

A spokesman for the Tatton Estate said: "We had to bring in a High Court bailiff. The travellers promised in front of the police and the bailiff that they would leave this morning.

"We are working with the police and the local community. We want to encourage people to give them space to encourage them to leave.

"No more vehicles or caravans came in the night."

Cllr James McCulloch added: "High Court officers have given assurance that those on the Heath will be moving. They have respectfully asked if the public to refrain from going to the Heath as this could only make matters worse.
