A TEENAGER with cerebral palsy has completed her one-mile charity walk around Tatton Park, raising more than £2,000 for an animal rescue shelter.

Amelia Semp, 14, from Mobberley, completed the challenge to raise funds for Cyprus Pride House, an animal rescue shelter near Limassol, Cyprus.

Three of Amelia’s four dogs – Storm, Rosie, Coco and Oscar – were adopted from the shelter and now have a loving new home in Knutsford.

When Amelia wanted to raise money, the shelter was the perfect cause, and the Middlewich school pupil quickly secured donations in the run-up to the big event.

Mum Sophie Semp explained: “Amelia’s always been around dogs, probably from when she was about three of four.

“I’ve been in touch with Cyprus Pride House for about eight years and we try and help when we can.”

Amelia and her family had originally hoped to raise £1,000 to help the shelter carry on its work, but this target was moved to £2,000 after an influx of generous donations.

Amelia even managed to smash that target, and the final amount raised stands at £2,301.

Knutsford Guardian:

The charity task was especially challenging as Amelia used her walking frame to walk the distance.

Proud mum Sophie said Amelia managed to complete the mile without stopping.

She added: “We started the walk at 1pm and it took Amelia 45 minutes.

“Amelia was quite nervous to start with but soon got into it.

“The last 15 minutes she found quite hard but was determined to finish.

“Amelia was so pleased she finished without stopping!

“We are all so proud of her.”

Cyprus Pride House rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes abandoned and abused cats and dogs.

It was set up in 2002 by a British couple who have since helped more than 1,000 animals.
