Constructed during the Easter break, a new 230 square metre EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) outdoor area has been installed, doubling what was previously in place.

The brand-new provision has been designed to give the school’s 60 Reception aged children the best possible start to their education, providing new resources which support all the key areas that are focussed on during EYFS education.

Teachers can now bring an entire Reception class outside, enabling the youngsters to spend much more time learning and playing outdoors, throughout the school day.

Features of the highly resourced new area include an outdoor classroom with storytelling chair, a wet play area with water wall, construction, sensory, music & number zones, scooter track, obstacle course, den making area, plus a sand pit.

"We are absolutely thrilled to have delivered this new outdoor area to our Reception children this year," commented Head Teacher Fiona Gresty.

"Learning outside the classroom supports the development of healthy and active lifestyles by offering children opportunities for physical activity, freedom and movement, and promoting a sense of well-being.

"We are already seeing the benefits of this new space reflected in the children, particularly in terms of their use of creativity, imagination and initiative when both playing and learning.

"The cognitive, emotional and physical benefits are immense, and we expect to see the same results repeated as we welcome future Reception children to our school."

Holmes Chapel Primary School continues to flourish with plans underway for further outdoor improvements, to be enjoyed by pupils across all academic years.

The school’s PTA is busy fundraising for new playground markings and woodland improvements, to facilitate den building and forest school sessions.

Situated on Middlewich Road, Holmes Chapel Primary School is a community school for children age 4-11 years and is ranked an Outstanding School by OFSTED.
