A TEENAGER with cerebral palsy who is challenging herself to walk one mile with her frame for charity has thanked the community after an influx of donations.

Amelia Semp, 14, from Mobberley, will be walking around Tatton Park in June to raise funds for Cyprus Pride House, an animal rescue shelter near Limassol, Cyprus.

Three of Amelia’s four dogs – Storm, Rosie, Coco and Oscar – were adopted from the shelter and now have a loving new home in Knutsford.

Amelia and her family had originally hoped to raise £1,000 to help the shelter carry on its work, but this target has been moved to £2,000 after generous donations brought the total to more than £1,300 already.

Amelia’s mum Sophie said: “We would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to donate and spread the word.

“Not only do we want to raise money for the shelter, but we also want to make people think twice about buying a pedigree puppy/kitten and think about adopting.

“There’s nothing more rewarding than giving a little life a forever home who’s had a rough start.

“Amelia is looking forward to the big day and we have our fingers crossed the weather is kind to us.”

Knutsford-based estate agent Stuart Rushton and Co donated £100 to Amelia’s cause and shared the fundraiser on social media to inspire others to do the same.

A spokesperson said: “We feel passionately about the importance of engaging with our community and having read the article in the Knutsford Guardian about Amelia’s inspirational story, we decided to make a donation to kick start her fundraising and to help spread the word far and wide on our social media.

“The more we learned about Cyprus Pride house and how they have dedicated their lives to helping rescue and rehome hundreds of dogs and cats, the more we wanted to help Amelia raise her target – an incredible young lady whose passion for animals touched all our hearts here in the office.

“We are delighted to be able to help in any way we can.”

Cyprus Pride House rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes abandoned and abused cats and dogs.

It was set up in 2002 by a British couple who have since helped more than 1,000 animals in the area.
