WREXHAM council is reminding residents of when they need to renew their garden waste collection service.

The service start date was delayed last year due to the coronavirus pandemic and consequently all subscriptions were extended until August 31, 2021.

Therefore, the 2021/22 scheme will run from Monday, August 30, 2021 until Friday, September 2, 2022.

Wrexham Council will begin accepting renewals from Monday, June 28 and residents are being asked not to renew before this date.

Charge will remain at £25 per bin per year

Darren Williams, Chief Officer Environment and Technical, said: "We are pleased to be able to freeze the cost of the service at £25 per green bin per year, which is less than many other authorities in England and Wales.

"Renewals will begin from Monday, June 28, and the best and most convenient way to pay for the service will be online at www.wrexham.gov.uk/gardenwaste.

"If this isn’t possible, you will be able to call 01978 298989 to make a card payment. However, we must stress again, please don’t attempt to pay for this service until renewals open on June 28. Thanks."

New stickers for renewals

Residents who renew the service will be issued with a new sticker, which will need to be displayed clearly on your bin lid to ensure collections.

Please allow at least 10 working days to receive your new sticker pack from the date you renew.

No cash or cheque payments

Last year, there was a number of customers who attempted to pay for the service by sending cash and cheques. These payments cannot be accepted.

Didn’t sign up for 2020/21 but now want to?

If you aren’t signed up for the current garden waste collection service (2020/21), but would now like the council to collect your green bin(s) over spring and into summer, it’s not too late to sign up.

It costs £25 per bin, with our current service running until August 31, 2021, so you could still get around 3 months’ worth of collections if you sign up soon.

You can sign up by visiting www.wrexham.gov.uk/gardenwaste which is the quickest and most convenient way. Alternatively, you can call 01978 298989 although you may experience a wait if you do so.
