PUPILS at Weaverham Primary Academy lit up at the chance to create fire in an action-packed Forest School session.

Chris Moseley is a Health Ranger for Total Environment, which is part of Cheshire West and Chester Council, and made use of the school's extensive outdoor area to teach children new skills and how to look after their environment.

They learned how to collect materials and set a fire in a safe way, use a map to find treasure and make jewellery from natural materials.

Head of school Jo Price said: "Each junior class has taken part in Forest Schools.

"The activities have included making wooden necklaces, designing treasure maps from natural materials and finding the treasure marked on the spot, building shelters, lighting fires and chopping wood.

"We've been trying to make school extra special for the children following so much time at home during the height of the Covid pandemic, and they absolutely love spending time in Forest School."

The Northwich Road primary school is flourishing under North West Academies Trust (NWAT), which took over its management in November 2018, and pupil intake has doubled.
