AN artificial grass pitch could be installed at Alderley Edge Community Primary School in order to improve its PE curriculum.

New planning proposals show that the school is hoping to construct the pitch, which will be 30 metres wide and 40 metres long, on an existing playing field.

Officials also say they have the support of the local community and ward councillor Craig Browne.

“It is extremely exciting to read the detail included in the proposal to establish a multi-use games area (MUGA) at Alderley Edge Community Primary School,” Cllr Browne said in a letter of support.

The Cheshire East Council deputy leader added: “The school utlises every available space for the needs of their learners and any opportunity such as this proposal should be supported in order to provide an invaluable resource to add value to the learning experience both for children and the local community.

“The benefits are numerous in terms of educational and personal development of learners as well as improving the overall health and wellbeing of young people of Alderley Edge.

“The ability for the school and community to use such a resources for the whole year regardless of the weather would significantly impact on the overall functioning of the school and bring about sustainable changes on many fronts.”

However, one nearby resident has asked that the council bar the school from installing floodlights at the site — but has not formally objected to the plans.
