A TEENAGE girl has been seriously injured in a hit-and-run collision in Widnes this afternoon, Saturday.

The girl was hit by a car on Hale Road, opposite the junction with Berry Road, shortly before 1pm.

She was taken to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in an ambulance after being assessed by paramedics.

Her parents were at the scene after being informed of the incident.

The dark-coloured Mercedes involved in the collision failed to stop at the scene.

The saloon car is believed to have sustained front end damage as a result of the incident.

An investigation into the collision has been launched and attempts to locate the vehicle and the driver are ongoing.

Sergeant Simon Degg, of Cheshire Constabulary’s Roads Policing Investigations team, said: “We are in the early stages of the investigation and enquiries are very much ongoing.

“Hale Road would have been busy during the time of the collision and we would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or anything else that may help our investigation.

“We also want to hear from anyone who believes they have dashcam footage of the collision, or of the Mercedes car involved in the incident.”

Hale Road was previously closed in both directions between Liverpool Road and Dundalk Road as a result of the collision.

It has since reopened.
