STUDENTS at Manor Park School and Nursery in Knutsford got the opportunity to pour an ice-cold bucket of water over their head teacher - all in aid of Comic Relief.

The lucky pupils earned the privilege by entering a joke competition, with the winners from each class getting to soak a staff member, teacher, governor or member of the Manor Park School Association (MPSA).

Runners-up were also able to join in the fun by launching a well-aimed wet sponge at a 'volunteer' while year group bubbles cheered on.

Knutsford Guardian:

"We explained the important work of Comic Relief to the children and they were really keen to support the charity either by either submitting their joke or buying a red nose," said head teacher Simon Cotterill.

"Thank you so much to all of the families for supporting the event and to all our volunteers for being such good sports."

Helena Renshaw, chair of the MPSA added: "We had a great giggle reading through the entries and it was really tough picking the winners."

One of the winning jokes was submitted by Jake Lamb in year five.

Knutsford Guardian:

His joke read: "What do you call a cheese that isn't yours? Nacho cheese!"

Isaac Warrington in year three also sent in a winning joke.

His read: "What do you call a dinosaur made of books? A thesaurus!"

Between the joke competition and sale of red noses, the school raised more than £500 for Comic Relief.

This included bucket sponsors of The Prescription Service and AK Physio.
