RESIDENTS are being warned to be on their guard after a con man has been trying to borrow money for petrol.
The trickster has been roaming round car parks preying on the goodwill of elderly people.
Wilmslow police says it is a scam.
A police spokesman said: "Please be aware that a male in his 50s has been approaching elderly people in car parks and asking for money to purchase fuel, with the promise of repayment at a later date.

"This is unfortunately a scam, please make any elderly relatives/neighbours aware and ask that they inform us on 101 should they be targeted, or 999 if they feel they need help in refusing the male."
