A WIDNES school is ready to welcome back pupils with a new 'oasis of calm'.

During the current lockdown, a new outdoor area has been created at St Gerrard's RC Primary and Nursery.

Ace Playground have worked their magic to create the space for the nursery and reception children.

Assistant head teacher, Edd Naylor said: "We are thrilled with the work that has been completed during the spring term.

"During this period of uncertainty, it is fantastic to see something incredibly positive come from this unsettling time. As we welcome back our children from Monday, we cannot wait to see their faces."

Runcorn and Widnes World:

Head teacher, Karl Landrum has thanked parents for their support with home learning and is looking forward to seeing the school children return.

He added: "As we prepare to welcome the school community back into St Gerard's, I am looking forward to hearing the corridors filled with little voices and children learning throughout the school once again."

"I would like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to our wonderful parents and carers, who have adapted incredibly well to our remote learning policies and procedures. This has been a very worrying and anxious time for everyone, but our families have adapted and overcome the hurdles of remote learning and continued to create outstanding work."

"Equally, our thanks are extended to the shops in close proximity to our school, Asad and Morrisons have supported our community with food donations throughout the period of school closure. The donations we have received have enabled us to support 30 families with a food parcel containing the essentials. Once again this is an example of 'holistic working' ensuring all of our families are supported and cared for."
