A COUPLE have celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary via Zoom thanks to staff at an Alderley Edge care home.

Jean and Eric Morris were joined by their family for the virtual gathering to celebrate 60 years as man and wife, with Jean a resident at the Brookview Bupa care home.

To help the happy couple celebrate, staff at the home arranged for both of them to enjoy pink champagne and receive helium balloons and cards, so they could have the same experience on the special occasion.

Jean was helped by staff at the care home celebrate her 60th wedding anniversary to husband Eric.

To make their anniversary extra special, the home even made a celebratory cake, decorated Jean’s room and arranged for Jean and Eric’s children, Colin, Dianne, Robert and Lyndsey, and their grandchildren to dial in for the virtual celebration.

Commenting on the milestone anniversary celebrations, Jean said: "I feel very lucky to have been made such a fuss of and I appreciate the staff here at Brookview going above and beyond to make it a special day for the both of us.

"It’s been a wonderful 60 years being married to Eric and it was lovely to celebrate with him and my family."

Jean and Eric met in 1958 through a mutual friend when she was just 15 years old.

They both lived in Leek and after Eric asking to walk Jean home one evening, the romance blossomed from there.

The couple married in 1961 on a snowy winter’s day and went on to have five children, and now have six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

When asked the secret to a long and happy marriage, Jean said: "In marriage you have to make the best of it and it’s about give and take.

"As long as you can laugh with each other and talk there is happiness."

Home Manager at Brookview Bupa Care Home, Sharon Short, added: "We’ve had a lovely day helping Jean and Eric celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary.

"We wanted to make sure they had the best day possible, so it meant the world to see them both so happy.

"Jean and Eric are a true love story and are an inspiration to us all."
