WILMSLOW Golf Club’s Pauline Clegg is honoured to be chosen as the Cheshire County Ladies Seniors captain for the coming year.

She brings a wealth of playing and administrative experience at both county and club level to her role.

“I began my golf at Chapel-en-le-Frith Golf Club in 1972 and had lessons with their professional Leo Feeney and my major success when at Chapel was to win the Maud Bason Trophy at Prestbury,” she said.

“I moved to Wilmslow Golf Club in 1977 and have been ladies secretary, match secretary and lady captain in 2007/08 and I played on several Bell Cup winning teams.

“I represented Cheshire in 1979, 1980, 1981 and 1983. Since than I have had two children and am now the proud grandmother to a little boy and will soon have a granddaughter!

“I also won the Comboy Scratch Trophy at Sandiway with a score of 148 and I was the Cheshire County Ladies captain in 2014.”

Pauline has always enjoyed every aspect of golf both on and off the course and she is looking forward to continuing this in her new role following the recent merger of the Cheshire Ladies and Cheshire Senior Ladies.

She said: “I would like to add that Lis Wilson was my president when I was county captain and she will be my patron this coming year.

“I was also a member of the winning team in the final of the Lis Wilson Scratch Knockout in my year as lady captain of Wilmslow.

“Also, I am lucky to have Caroline Berry as my vice captain – I couldn’t ask for two nicer or more experienced ladies to give me their support and look forward to many fun times ahead (coronavirus willing!).

“The Cheshire Senior Ladies have won the Richardson Trophy for the last four years of competition and we are looking to win it again this year.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time as lady captain at Wilmslow and county captain and fully expect it to be the same as seniors captain as I have an excellent committee and team and look forward to a great year of golf in 2021.”
