A SHROPSHIRE man will go on trial after being charged with being in possession of two guns in the village of Tabley.

Shane Graham Smith, 37, of Market Drayton, appeared at Stockport Magistrates Court on January 21 where he faced a total of three charges, one for each firearm and a third in relation to being in possession of ammunition.

The charges date back to August 1 2018 when it is alleged Smith was found with a handgun, a 22 inch long rifle, as well as cartridges said to be the ammunition for the latter of those two weapons.

It is alleged Smith did not hold a firearm certificate for any of the guns or ammunition, with the charges brought against him under the power of section 1 of the Firearms Act 1968.

No plea was entered during the hearing and Smith, who was given unconditional bail, will appear at Manchester Crown Court on February 18.
