DRIVERS are being warned to take extra care on the roads today with Cheshire reeling from the effects of Storm Christoph.

The county has been battered by heavy rain this week, leaving some areas severely flooded, and roads are posing a major hazard to motorists.

Fire crews have been sent out to Lower Peover today, where a driver had to be rescued from a Peugeot 407 that was stuck in flood water.

Firefighters from Middlewich, Northwich and Lymm were sent out to the scene at Foxcovert Lane at 10.32am, while the driver was also assessed by paramedics.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We are continuing to deal with flooding incidents.

“Crews have been out to Nether Peover to another vehicle stranded in water where the occupant was unable to get out.

“Please think twice before trying to drive through flood water.”

Fire crews also rescued from Northwich and Lymm also rescued a man from a car stuck in a foot of flood water in Griffiths Road, Rudheath, on Thursday night.

A number of road closures have been in place today, including:

  • A49 Acton Bridge between Bartington crossroads and Sandy Lane
  • A49 Cotebrook
  • A56 Little Bollington
  • Davenham Road, Rudheath
  • London Road, Northwich
  • Lymm Road, Little Bollington

Residents are reminded not to drive or walk through any flood water – this is often deeper than it looks, may be moving fast and there could be hidden hazards underneath such as raised manhole covers.
