PLANS have been submitted to restore a Grade II listed former pub building which has been used for flats.

Proposals seek to refurbish the former Wheatsheaf pub building on Lionel Street, Sutton, near to St Helens Junction railway station, and seek to retain six flats at the listed building.

Meanwhile, a separate planning application also seeks permission to create a three-storey apartment block at the site, containing six flats.

A design and access statement said: "In addition to the refurbishing of the existing grade II listed Wheatsheaf pub/hotel at 2 Lionel Street, the proposals relate to the construction of a new build block of six apartments, comprised of two two-bed apartments and four one-bed studio apartments".

The proposed block will be 'L-shaped' and "wholly contemporary in appearance".

Plans have received one letter of objection.

It said: "I must strongly object, since the building was converted to flats some 30-plus years ago there has been nothing but problems in that respect".

The plans for the new apartment block are on consultation until January 29 and plans for the refurbishment until February 1.

A determination deadline has been set on plans for March 2.
