A POPULAR Wilmslow restaurant has been granted permission to move into bigger premises.

Cibo, an Italian eatery on Green Lane, has been given approval to merge two shop units on Grove Street.

Numbers 31 — currently a Holland and Barrett store with less than two years left on its lease — and 33, a vacant unit which formerly housed Tui, will undergo renovations ‘to unify the two properties into a single premises’, according to architect Ian Garraway.

In a design and access statement to Cheshire East Council’s planning team, Mr Garraway wrote: “The new operator intends to invest heavily in the site, creating a better than previous level of employment.

“This investment will stimulate additional investment to Grove Street, and should act as an anchor tenant to the centre of Grove Street. The success of Cibo has contributed positively to the town centre, and it is hoped that the new venture will have a similar impact on Grove Street.”

The two premises currently adjoin the Cibo restaurant to the rear on Green Lane, with owners hoping that the new Grove Street outlet will operate as ‘standalone premises’ that ‘will trade independently from Cibo with different operating hours/days to Cibo’.

The ownership of each unit has also been transferred into new, single ownership, allowing owners to take on the project.
