A TENNIS club has bene granted permission to install floodlights for two of its courts.

Plans were submitted to the council for the installation of nine six-metre high columns with floodlights, surrounding tennis courts one and two at Eccleston Park Lawn Tennis Club on Forest Close.

The plans stated: "Eccleston Park Tennis Club plays a prominent role in the local community.

"Two of the courts (courts 4 and 5) are floodlit and are a synthetic clay surface.

"The three shale courts are currently being redeveloped to transform them into a synthetic clay surface, similar to the two existing synthetic clay courts (planning permission for this was granted in January 2020).

"With regard to the proposals for additional floodlighting on two courts, the views of club members and the parents of the participating children in the local community have been canvassed, with the response being overwhelmingly positive".

They added: "Eccleston Park Tennis Club is seeking to add floodlights to the two courts that are nearest to the clubhouse (Courts 1 and 2). The design specifications have been chosen with the aim of ensuring that there is no light spill on neighbouring houses.

"The club is seeking to add the floodlights to two of the courts that are in the process of being redeveloped into an all-weather synthetic clay surface, with the aim of extending play into the autumn, winter and early spring months, when these courts are currently out of action".

Approval was granted for the floodlights.
