WEAVERHAM Hardware has closed ‘until further notice’ after one of its staff tested positive for coronavirus.

Barry Starnes, the owner of the family-run business, announced the closure on twitter, saying it was closing for staff to self-isolate as a precaution.

He said: “It is with a heavy heart that we inform you that Weaverham Hardware will be closed from today, December 6, until further notice, due to Covid-19.

“One member of staff has tested positive. Although no other members of staff have symptoms, we are closing to self-isolate as a precaution, as the health and safety of our staff and customers is paramount.

“We aim to support our staff as much as possible during this time. As we continue to monitor the situation closely, we will keep you informed via social media. Please stay safe and well.”

Barry opened his shop in 1989, and has been a key part of the village ever since.

He has a loyal and long-serving workforce managed by his daughter Emma and her fiancé Graham Egerton.

Barry’s wife Jan, along with David Collins, Paul Joynson, Lesley Johnson and Matthew Dickenson, make up the rest of the team.

The business celebrated its 30th anniversary in August 2019.
