REPAIR works are hoped for Tatton Park’s Show House and Fernery, a new planning application shows.
Cheshire East Council has submitted a bid to obtain listed building consent to carry out the work on the buildings.
If approved, a replacement roof structure and new doors and brickwork will be installed on the Show House. The Fernery will see new glazing and repairs to the existing timber roof structure.
“Both the Fernery and Show House are currently in poor condition and have been closed off to the public due to safety reasons and currently left vacant, deteriorating if no work is done to these structures,” said CEC in a design and access statement attached to the application.
It added: “The Tatton gardening staff are currently maintaining the planting in the Fernery to ensure its survival. The proposal aims to provide appropriate repairs and replacements to both buildings, creating a safe and sustainable scheme for both visitors and staff alike to use and enjoy.”
The Fernery is Grade II* listed structure, prompting repairs to generally ‘ be on a like-for like basis, unless the existing arrangement or material choice has proven to be unsatisfactory’.
The Show House was last majorly refurbished in 1993, and the goal of this project is to re-open it to the public.
Tatton Park has remained open to the public throughout the November lockdown.
