WARRINGTON Wolves have confirmed the departure of centre Anthony Gelling.

The Cook Islands international leaves by mutual consent having spent just a single season at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Gelling made 13 appearances after joining from neighbours Widnes Vikings for this season, scoring seven tries, but he is now expected to return to his native New Zealand.

His departure opens up an overseas quota spot in the Warrington Wolves squad.

He spent a period out of the team after he was suspended by the club following his arrest on suspicion of wounding with intent in February.

Gelling was eventually charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm on girlfriend Toni Mackey but pleaded not guilty to the charge at Warrington Magistrates Court in July.

He is due to stand trial at Liverpool Crown Court on May 12 next year but was granted unconditional bail.
