REVEREND Heather Buckley is delivering soup as well as spiritual guidance to Goostrey residents in the run-up to Christmas.

Heather is the vicar at St Luke’s Church, and came up with the idea of delivering a weekly lunch of soup and a roll to elderly people isolating in the village.

The soup run was sparked by the approach of winter, and Heather came up with the name Soupa Soups for the community initiative.

A team of volunteers from the village make a range of soups, which are delivered to local homes by Heather and Alison Wright every Friday lunchtime.

The scheme caters in the main for elderly people living on their own, who value the opportunity to chat to Heather as well as a welcome lunch, which is served chilled.

“St Luke's are motoring around the village every Friday until nearly Christmas with our Soupa Soups,” said Heather.

“I would like to say a great big thank you to Alison Wright for all her help and to our wonderful team of volunteers who are making the most delicious soup.

“If you know of anyone who would appreciate soup on a Friday and they are not on our list, please do not hesitate to let us know.”

Knutsford Guardian:

The chilled Soupa Soups

Soupa Soups started this month, and sees soups delivered to more than 30 homes between 10am and midday.

The soups are delivered in Alison’s car, following Covid-secure guidelines, and left on residents’ doorsteps or handed to them in a socially-distanced manner.

“The aim of Soupa Soups is to reach out to those residents who are isolated for whatever reason,” said Alison, a Co-op Member Pioneer.

“We deliver mainly to older people, and we know weekends are very difficult for people who are isolating.

“People are really pleased to see us, and such a small gesture is making such a massive difference.

“Heather knocks on the door and has a socially-distanced chat before we take the cups of soup and leave them on the doorstep or hand them over socially-distanced.

“Most of the people we deliver to are on their own, and people appreciate the fact that somebody has thought about them and taken the time and trouble to visit – it’s gone down really well.”
