MARSTON’S is looking to improve the cobbled area in front of The Lost and Found in Knutsford to provide more shelter, heating and lighting for customers.

The brewery is seeking listed building consent to improve area fronting the Princess Street pub and install a butterfly awning shelter with a retractable roof for summer use.

A report with the application to Cheshire East Council said: “The purpose of the proposed work is to enhance the external trading area of the pub, increasing the external sheltered areas to enable greater use of the outside front cobbled area.

“This area has already been enhanced in the past with the use of four Jumberellas and various styles of seating.

“We are proposing to relocate two of the existing Jumberellas and include a centrally-positioned butterfly-style awning which will be heated and lit – the roof of which is retractable so can be closed in the summer for full use of the sun.

“We are also looking to relocate the current corner access off the footpath which is not stable under foot, to a more centrally-located entrance directly opposite the vestibule entrance.

“To enable this [to take place] we are looking to reposition existing timber planters, make minor changes to the low-level chain link fence and to uplift and relay the existing cobbles to provide a ramped, safe under foot access.

“This will eliminate current trip hazards and ponding where cobbles have sunk; this will be done by using existing cobbles.

“This proposed external work will keep the building looking maintained, appealing and smart, which will appeal to Knutsford residents and keep custom at a maximum.

“The design is to enhance the historical building to ensure it is maintained to an excellent standard, ensuring a pleasurable experience for existing and new customers.

“The proposal is not to extend the property, but to enhance the front external trading area within the existing site boundary.

“Covers will remain as is, however they will be covered and heated and lit sufficiently to allow the outside space to be used all year.”
