THE family whose home was gutted in a fire have been ‘overwhelmed’ by the huge outpouring of support from the Mobberley community.

A semi-detached house in Bucklow Avenue, Mobberley, was badly damaged by a fire on Saturday, November 14.

Fortunately members of the family managed to get out of the house before the firefighters arrived, with one of the family taken to hospital as a precaution.

The family are currently staying with a family member in the village, which immediately rallied round to help. Thousands of pounds poured into a justgiving webpage in a matter of hours and residents donated bedding, clothing, towels and toiletries.

The justgiving page has raised £14,000 from 475 donations, and the collection of donated items was co-ordinated by resident Sally Kendall.

Sally, a member of Mobberley Parish Council, said: “Everybody in the village was upset by what they saw, and wanted to help.

“The family needed an emergency bed on the day of the fire, and some bedding and clothes, towels and toiletries to get them through the night.

“People were turning up morning, noon and night at the Rajar Building with clothes, and Mobberley Trust paid for a new mattress for the family.

“The family are staying with a family member in the village, and are quite overwhelmed and touched by how the village has responded and come together to help them; they are ever so grateful.

“It’s so lovely to see the community pulling together like this, and I’m so proud to live in this village. When everybody is struggling themselves it’s so lovely to see they’re looking after their own.

“On the day of the fire the justgiving page which was set up was going up by £1,000 an hour.

Cllr Charlotte Leach said: “The community has already been very well mobilised because of the Covid crisis, doing shopping for people, and the response from the village to the fire is what makes Mobberley such a special place.

“The community is very generous, unbelievably resilient and always there for people in a time of crisis.

“I understand the family has been very touched by the generosity of the community, and it has been a massive team effort by everyone.”
