KNUTSFORD and District Lions Club is making a renewed plea for support for its scheme to help those in fuel poverty this winter.
The club is again urging people to consider donating all or part of their winter fuel allowance to Project Wenceslas to try to ensure all residents are kept warm this winter and to help those suffering financial hardship.
Donations are also sought from those not receiving winter fuel allowance who might feel able to support the scheme.
This is the sixth year of Project Wenceslas, during which time much has been achieved in reducing fuel poverty.
However, with many families struggling to manage financially during the coronavirus pandemic, the need to be able to give support has increased substantially.
The club links up with other local organisations to help administer the scheme, ensuring that money provided is used only for the purpose intended.
Scheme fundraiser Peter Willgoose said: “Some very generous donations have been received since this year’s project was launched earlier in November, for which the Lions are extremely grateful.
“However the problems now being encountered have greatly increased the needs of many local people, so further funding is very important.
“Gift Aid, adding 25 per cent to donations, is possible for those who pay tax; please telephone 01565 631255 for a form or for further information.”
Donations can be made via Just Giving on the Lions website knutsfordlions.org.uk, or cheques payable to Knutsford Lions Charity Account (endorsed on the back ‘Project Wenceslas’) can be sent to Peter Willgoose, Chestnut Cottage, Tabley Road, Knutsford, WA16 0NE.
