SCHOOL children are enjoying new fun and games thanks to the Co-op’s Local Community Fund (LCF).

The fund helps support local charities and organisations with the money raised in store by its members. For every £1 members spend 1p goes to a local cause of their choosing.

As funding for this year comes to an end local groups have thanked the community for its support via Co-op stores in Knutsford and Mobberley.

Helen Kynnersley from Mobberley 1st Brownies said: "Our wonderful activities have all been postponed and our unit has not been operational since March. Therefore, the phenomenal award of £1,243 will be saved for activities in the coming year.”

Mobberley Pre-School is relying on vital fundraising to improve its garden area.

Pre-school treasurer Gemma Birchall said: "The garden has become even more precious to the children in recent months, and the new books purchased with the help of the fund will be enjoyed as part of a book swap.

“We can't thank the community enough for all the money raised and their ongoing support.”

Bernadette Groarke, headteacher at St Vincent’s Primary School said: “The £2,026 raised will go towards the redevelopment of our outdoor area, including a multi-use games area, new playground markings and an outdoor wooden gazebo.

“Thank you to the Co-op and its customers from everyone at St Vincent’s – we have an amazing community.”

Friends of Mobberley PTA was hoping to raise £1,000 from the fund, but in the event raised more than £1,200.

As a result it was able to buy all the geography and history supplies it needed, and thanked everyone who chose to support the PTA.

Emma Millington, teacher and geography and history lead at Mobberley Primary School said: “Thank you so much to the Co-op. Our new resources will be used by all pupils at the school and will last many years.”
