A SPECIALIST business has opened to provide premium country clothing and equipment for people who enjoy spending time outdoors.

Fieldsmiths has converted a former potato store at Lowes Farm in Byley into an elegant emporium, stocking high end brands from the UK's finest workshops.

Peter Sant, who spent 17 years in London developing brands around Savile Row, is hoping to create Cheshire's finest country wear store.

"I come from a luxury background," said the dad-of-three, who moved to Goostrey to be closer to his family. "Having returned to Cheshire, I have a greater awareness of how folk here appreciate dressing well in the country.

Fieldsmiths sings the praises of British makers

"They are very brand aware. We want to sing the praises of British makers who celebrate craft and functionality."

Peter has a wealth of knowledge and expertise having served discerning customers at Gieves & Hawkes, Kilgour, Farlows and James Purdey & Sons.

After homing his skills with gun makers and royal warranted brands, he now wants to appeal to a wider market.

"We want to be very approachable and inclusive," he said. "We want to cater for everyone not just field sports enthusiasts and shooters but also dog enthusiasts, bird watchers, in fact everyone who loves and enjoys the outdoors."

Launching his own business is a dream come true.

"I have always been encouraged by family and friends to do this one day," said Peter. "I realised that people around Cheshire know what good looks like and appreciate premium brands."

Knutsford Guardian:

The Fieldsmiths brand will join premium brands in field and country wear

Peter has created his own brand Fieldsmiths, which will sit alongside well established brands including Schoffel, Dubarry, Laksen, Harkila, Musto, Aigle and Seelend.

"The collection for our shop is all made in the UK," said Peter, who has teamed up with business parter Jez Frith, one of Cheshire's most prolific dog training and behavioural experts.

"I buy tweeds from the Hawick and I have knitters all over Scotland, sock makers in the Borders and coat manufacturers in Northampton. They are all really good British workshops. Making things that last is our mantra."

Peter prides himself on stocking everything you need for the outdoors from wellies, walking boots, sticks and socks to jumpers, coats and bags.

Dog lovers will be spoilt for choice with a wide variety of training accessories, leads, food and toys.

Customers will be encouraged to linger and chat beside a wood burning stove

"We want people to linger here, come in and talk about shooting and enjoying the environment," said Peter. "We've got a wood burning stove and beautiful art work.

"There is a beautiful farm shop, cafe, pottery school, framing shop and market garden beside us. We all celebrate craft and local produce."

Fieldsmiths hopes to reopen after lockdown on December 3.
