A CLUB which controls many fishing venues in and around the Knutsford area wants to make things easier for newcomers during the current lockdown.

There has been a huge rise in the numbers of people going fishing during this year's isolation periods, with the sport now being given the green light to continue under restrictions by the Government during the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

Altrincham and District Angling Club, which has rights to the likes of Boothsmere, Mobberley Pool, Toft Hall and Mereheath Lane Pool, is offering a significant discount to new senior members.

Furthermore, juniors aged 16 and below are entitled to free membership.

A club statement says: "Altrincham & District Angling Club was formed over 70 years ago during the days of the cane rod and early intrepid reels.

"Much has changed over the years that have followed with the huge development in tackle technology, more pressure on fish stocks, loss of habitats, and of course, the increased pressure on ourselves.

"We firmly and honestly believe, that the fishing enjoyed during the formation of this club, can still be had on tranquil, under-fished meres, lakes, rivers and ponds controlled by it.

"Most are located in and around the Knutsford area and the angling club are taking the incentive to offer people in the local area the opportunity to join their ever increasing membership and enjoy the great outdoors as, in these hard and unprecedented times, angling is one of the pastimes that has been given the green light by the Government to be allowed to proceed in this second lockdown.

"The dedicated committee of the club recognise that angling can be a much needed get away from just being locked in between four walls and there aren't many better places to relax and clear the mind than being next to a tranquil lake all at one with nature."

Altrincham & District Angling Club are currently offering a 'winter warmer deal' with the reduction of £25 off the cost

of an adult obtaining a membership.

The club, which is a member of the Angling Trust, say that they follow strict social distancing guidelines to make sure all of their members are kept safe during this pandemic.

They have also acknowledged running a restocking programme they are calling #ProjectRestock which features raffles from which funds will be going back into the club to help regenerate carp fishing at picturesque Boothsmere, described as 'the club's pride and joy and jewel in the crown' where there are said to be many exceptional specimen residents.

"The committee, between them, have a combination of experience and enthusiasm which includes a water management team, a head bailiff and his team of bailiffs for all waters, and a strong match committee," continues the statement.

"All these combined ensure that ADAC is thriving and will continue to do so in the future."
