FOUR people were taken to hospital last night (Wednesday) following a house fire believed to have been caused by an electrical fault.

Seven fire engines attended the fire at a two-storey detached house in Leycester Drive, Mobberley, and worked throughout the night.

At around 11.50pm firefighters were called to a report of a garage fire, and when they arrived found the garage, which was attached to the house, well alight.

Knutsford Guardian:

Four people were assessed by firefighters before being handed over to the care of paramedics and subsequently taken to hospital.

Three of the casualties are believed to have been suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation and the other is believed to have suffered a cut to their arm.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said: “The garage contained a quantity of heating oil.

“Crews isolated the oil supply and four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire in the garage by 12.30am using hose reel jets.

“The house was inspected, and a further fire was discovered in a bedroom on the first floor.

“Firefighters extinguished that too before exposing ceiling joints and floorboards in the bedroom to make sure the fire had not spread beyond the room.”

The rest of the house was inspected, including the roof space.

A ladder was used to access the roof space. Firefighters worked at the house through the night, and a utility company arrived in the early hours today and isolated the electricity supply to the address.

Knutsford Guardian:

Firefighters used thermal imaging cameras to look for hotspots. Respirators and other specialist equipment were also used, and any hotspots found were damped down.

Items damaged by the fire in the garage and in the house were removed by firefighters.

The garage and the bedroom were thoroughly damped down to make them safe.

The spokesman added: “By around 6.45am only one fire engine remained in attendance. The final fire engine left the scene at around 10am after a final inspection of the address revealed no hotspots.

Knutsford Guardian:

“An investigation into the cause of the fire has taken place. It is believed to have been an accidental fire caused by an electrical fault.”

Seven fire engines, including relief crews, attended the fire; from Knutsford, Wilmslow, Poynton, Macclesfield, Middlewich, Bollington and Altrincham.
