THE first death from coronavirus in more than a week has been recorded by Leighton Hospital’s NHS Trust.
New figures from NHS England show that a total of 220 people have now died from Covid-19 at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s sites since the pandemic began.
The latest death was recorded by the trust on Monday, October 26, and reported this afternoon, October 28.
It is the first death from Covid-19 to have been reported by the trust in eight days.
Deaths are recorded as being caused by coronavirus when they take place within 28 days of a positive Covid test.
Only deaths that occur in hospitals where the patient has tested positive for Covid-19 are recorded, with deaths in the community excluded, such as those in care homes.
The last Covid-19 death at the Countess of Chester NHS Trust was reported on Monday, while East Cheshire NHS Trust last reported a coronavirus death on October 21.
In total, there have been 5,914 deaths recorded in north west NHS hospitals from coronavirus since the pandemic started, making it the third-worst hit region from the virus.
