IF you’re keen to clean green and do your bit for your planet, then a Goostrey start-up business might be just what you need.

Smells Clean, which provides chemical-free cleaning products, has come up smelling of natural roses during the COVID-19 crisis.

When lockdown was announced Sarah Ludford, founder of this start-up business – whose ethical, chemical-free cleaning products are sold mainly online – assumed they would have to close their webshop and wait it out.

But to her surprise, the demand increased by 400 per cent, with UK and international customers keen to purchase her company’s products.

Sarah said: “We deliver direct to clients from online orders, but we didn’t think there would be room for an ethical, non-antibacterial cleaner at the moment.

“How wrong we were! Quite quickly our courier systems were under strain, and we had to double our efforts to get parcels to customers in good time.

“But now we've gained thousands of new converts whose preferences have certainly shifted. Client feedback shows they realise there's no need for harsh chemicals to do day to day cleaning.”

Smells Clean aims to offer an alternative to cleaners that create a ‘chemical load’ that many people, such as those with breathing difficulties, can’t tolerate.

The business develops cleaning fluids that don’t contain chemicals or synthetic ingredients, instead, they used all-natural ingredients that are fragranced with premium essential oils and are not tested on animals.

Sarah added: “Best of all our cleaners smell amazing, like a visit to the spa. Your home smells clean and welcoming, and the family will feel refreshed and relaxed.

"There's now great potential to expand our range and offer it to trade and retail chains as a genuine, and growing, alternative to mainstream chemical-laden cleaners."
