KNUTSFORD Scouts are seeking help to put the finishing touches to their long-awaited new base.

The new Scout hut for the 1st Knutsford Scouts is near completion, and businesses and individuals are being asked for support with work needed to finish the interior of the building.

Group Scout chairman Lisa Barcroft-Lee said: “We have done a phenomenal job in raising more than £235,000 in getting the money to build a new Scout hut, and are now asking for businesses and individuals to get involved as we just need to push forward and finish the interior.

“The situation with Covid-19 meant that the project was mothballed for months, but we were still incurring costs, which has impacted on our budgets.”

The group has received a major boost from business owner Mike Cooke, from MLC Door Services, who donated an insulated electric roller shutter garage door for the building.

Mike said: “As soon as I saw the location of the building, which is in the heart of Knutsford and will be used for so many community purposes as well as for the Scouts, I felt I should help.”

Lisa said: “The new door has made a significant difference to the appearance and security of the new Scout hut.

“The building is now nearly watertight, and now that the exterior has been completed the focus for the new building is the basics of the interior such as toilets, including full disabled facilities, as well as electrics, flooring and a heating system.

“There has been a Scout Hut on the Moor in Knutsford for more than 100 years, and while this is a new build it will be available for the whole Knutsford community to use these facilities.”

The Scout group is seeking support with a range of items, including interior doors, heated hand dryers and lighting.

Anyone who has time, money or materials they can donate is asked to get in touch with Lisa Barcroft-Lee at lisa.barcroftlee@knutsfordscouts.org.uk

Group Scout Leader Rob Allen owns KHG Security, which will be donating a full alarm system for the hut.
