A FURTHER 128 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Cheshire West and Chester in the latest one-day Government data.

It means the total number of Covid-19 cases recorded in the borough now stands at 4,550.

Yesterday's Government data had shown an increase of 116 confirmed cases in the area, while a total of 114 positive tests were reported in the previous day's update.

The weekly infection rate for Cheshire West and Chester, based on the seven days up to October 15, is 183.6 (630 cases) per 100,000.

Across the UK, there have been 21,331 more cases in the latest 24-hour reporting period, taking the total number since the pandemic began to 762,542.

England saw a one-day increase of 17,814 which has taken the overall figure to 647,025.

Meanwhile, the Countess of Chester Hospital has recorded two further deaths of patients with coronavirus in the latest 24-hour period.

NHS England data also revealed that both Mid Cheshire and Warrington and Halton hospital trusts reported additional deaths.

The total number of deaths registered by the Countess of Chester Hospital Trust since the pandemic began now stands at 234.
