FOURTEEN students from Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School have been self-isolating at home after a positive Covid-19 case in school.

Tony Halsall, the school’s director of business services, said since the school’s October 2 review of its Covid safety plans it had written to parents and students to report a Covid-19 case in school and the actions it had taken to manage the situation.

He said: “Once we initiated our internal Track and Trace procedures and discussed the outcomes with Public Health England we contacted the families of 14 students who we felt should self-isolate at home as a precautionary measure.

“We are grateful to those students and their families for their ongoing support and help in keeping our school safe.

“No further positive cases have since been reported during the following two weeks.”

The school has now conducted the third scheduled review of its plans since it reopened.

Mr Halsall added: “Given the current community infection rates and the tightening of general measures in place across Cheshire East aimed at reducing the risk of spreading Covid-19, we are not making any further changes to the current position on the wearing of face coverings in school. Face coverings are compulsory inside school buildings.”

A number of changes have been introduced at lunchtime aimed at reducing the risks around the mixing of year group social bubbles. There are now three dining rooms at lunchtime, which reduces the flow of students through the main dining room.
