LINDOW Cricket Club are a step closer to providing the facilities to match their impressive growth.

A £500 donation from David Wilson Homes North West has boosted the fund for a clubhouse redevelopment at its Upcast Lane ground, which is a base to one of the town’s largest sports clubs.

Adam Bull, the club’s development officer, said: “We would like to thank David Wilson Homes for the donation to our fundraiser as it will take us one step closer to finishing our exciting clubhouse project.

“We’re looking to extend our function room and update the changing rooms for the players as we are developing at a rapid rate.”

Despite this year’s reduced cricket season forced by the Covid-19 pandemic, Lindow have again achieved record participation numbers.

This goes against the grain of a lot of sports clubs up and down the country where numbers have dropped and teams have been battling to survive.

Staggeringly, Lindow Cricket Club run 27 teams for individuals of all abilities and are Cheshire Cricket’s current ‘Coaching Club of the Year’.

You can see why.

As well as having four men’s teams, Lindow’s female section is thriving, with the women’s team winning their league, three successful girls’ teams and lots of girls in the club’s All Stars programme for five to seven-year-olds.

A second women’s team is being established as a result of this growth.

The volunteer-run club are at the heart of the Wilmslow community and also host a range of charity matches and dinners, which in 2019 included a charity day for the Greater Manchester Youth Network.

Philippa Stewart, head of sales at David Wilson Homes North West, said: “As one of the UK’s leading developers, it is really important that we support organisations and charities in the areas in which we build.

“Lindow Cricket club are a great example of a club that bring the whole community together.

“We wish them all the best of luck with their clubhouse extension and hope that they continue their wonderful work within the community of Wilmslow.”
