A FURTHER 47 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been recorded in Cheshire West and Chester in the latest 24-hour reporting period.

The rise in the period up to 4pm today (October 9) brings the total number of cases for the borough to 3,421.

The weekly infection rate for Cheshire West and Chester, as of October 6, stood at 161.8 (555 cases) per 100,000.

The borough has already been highlighted as an 'area of concern' by the Government.

In the latest NHS England update, no further deaths of patients testing positive for coronavirus were recorded by the Countess of Chester Hospital Trust.

However, both Mid Cheshire and Warrington and Halton hospital trusts reported additional deaths in the latest 24-hour period.

The total number of people who have died in Cheshire hospitals after testing positive for coronavirus stands at 742.

The Countess of Chester Hospital Trust has recorded 229 deaths (the last on October 6), Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has recorded 215 deaths, (the last on October 6); East Cheshire NHS Trust 147 (the last on September 30), and Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust 150 (the last on October 8).

Across England, a further 56 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals to 30,379.

Patients were aged between 42 and 98 years-old. All had known underlying health conditions.

Date of death ranges from March 31 to October, 8, with the majority being on or after October 2.
