THREE women braved buckets of maggots being poured on their heads to raise money in memory of a car crash victim in 2004.
Lisa Coonan, 21, from Church Street, Great Harwood, took part with friends Amanda Brown, from Walton-le-Dale, and Jane Woods, from Preston.
They raised almost £2,000 for a cerebral function monitor at Hope Hospital, in Salford, with the 30-gallon shower.
The girls were hoping to raise £5,000 to buy the hi-tech equipment, which helped monitor brain progress.
The trio chose the cause after Amanda’s cousin Garry Jones, 20, from Forton, near Lancaster, was killed in a car crash in Garstang in December.
The shower was at the Ted Carter Fishing Shop, in Preston.
Lisa said: “It was a bit horrid. I don’t think I have ever been so nervous.
“Apparently maggots are bred on dead animals and they really smell like it. It is a horrible rotting smell. But it was all for a good cause.
“I had a shower, a bath and washed my hair three times when I got home.”
