A SECOND year group at Knutsford Academy is now self-isolating following another confirmed case of Covid-19 at the school.

Students in year 10 are being instructed to self-isolate until Friday, October 2, after a student from that year tested positive for coronavirus.

Knutsford Academy were given the result yesterday, September 23, and the student was last in school on Friday, September 18 – meaning other year 10 pupils should self-isolate for 14 days from that date.

It comes as year 11 students at the school are already self-isolating following a case of coronavirus involving a pupil in that year.

That student was last attending Knutsford Academy on Tuesday, September 15, and the rest of the year group has been instructed to stay at home until Tuesday, September 29.

Siblings of students in year 10 or 11 – who are in years 7, 8 or 9 – can still attend school as normal.

A post on the school’s website says: “On receiving guidance from Public Health England we were instructed for year 10 to self-isolate for a period of 14 days from when the student was last in school.

“More detailed information has been sent via email to all parents, we ask parents to check their email and read through this.

“For year 10 we have also provided further information on the remote learning that will now take place until the return to school.”

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson told MPs that keeping schools open would be a priority, as he announced other coronavirus restrictions.

He said: "I want to stress that this is by no means a return to the full lockdown of March. We're not issuing a general instruction to stay at home.

"We will ensure that schools, colleges, universities stay open because nothing is more important than the education, health and well-being of our young people.”
