PLANNING officers have given the green light for 124 new homes in Winnington.

Anwyl Homes will build the properties on part of the Winnington Business Park site, off Winnington Avenue.

Cheshire West and Chester Council had already granted outline planning permission for up to 160 homes and new industrial units on the site back in April 2018.

This latest decision means work can begin on building 124 of those homes.

Fifteen of those will be affordable, including eight apartments and seven houses, while the rest of the site will be made up of mostly four or three-bedroom houses.

In approving the scheme, CWAC officers said the development met the requirements of local and national planning policy, including on open space requirements.

Two residents objected to the plans over the site’s proximity to Moss Farm’s archway, insisting the properties would be too close, while concerns were raised about an increase in people visiting the site.

But CWAC’s planning team said safety issues ‘would be a matter for the management of Moss Farm’.

Anwyl Homes has previously spoken of its ambition for redevelopment in Winnington.

Speaking earlier this year, John Grime, the company’s regional managing director, said: “Winnington is a very accessible, sustainable location, with excellent amenities close by.

“Indeed, it has become an aspirational and very popular place to live and is perfect for our family-orientated new homes.

“Our new carefully crafted homes will provide a boost to the local housing supply and we’ll be making financial contributions to education, healthcare, highways, parks, play spaces and sports pitches.

Earlier this month, FI Real Estate Management unveiled plans to build more than 120,000sq ft of new industrial buildings on another part of the Winnington Business Park site.

The scheme is yet to be listed on CWAC’s planning website.
