MONITORING the progress of Blackburn town centre’s redevelopment work became something of a spectator sport in 1980.
A special viewing platform was created to allow people to see the town’s new shopping centre taking shape. A large glass area was created overlooking Ainsworth Street so that shoppers could see the changes being made.
As part of the work a bridge was put in to connect the shopping centre and the market via a spiral ramp close to the St John’s Tavern.
