PLANS to build 12 detached homes in Alderley Park have been approved unanimously by Cheshire East councillors — despite concerns.

Seven dwellings will now be built on the existing Alderley House site, with five more on the car park.

However, the Cheshire Gardens Trust had lodged an objection to the plans, stating they will erode the historic parkland: “It is contrary to the approved Alderley Park Design Principles which established a framework and hierarchy for development.

“If permitted it would further erode the character and significance of the historic parkland at Alderley Park.”

The trust was not the only authority to express concerns over the proposals, as although it did not submit a formal objection, Nether Alderley Parish Council did suggest more work could be done to keep the proposed houses in line with its surroundings before the meeting.

It said: “We concur that any development should not detract from the adjacent historic buildings i.e. Tenants Hall, Dove Cote, etc.

“We would suggest the 12 dwellings be constructed in soft coloured brick to complement surrounding materials and not the Stucco rusticated render proposed.”

That being said, councillors chose to approve the officers’ report recommendations, which were deemed acceptable overall.
