FORD owners are being urged to take extra precautions after a spate of targeted car thefts.

Burnley police officers have advised owners of any Ford ST to use extra methods to deter thieves from targetting their cars.

The force has seen an increase of thefts targetting the ST – or "Sports-Tuned" – cars, specially-branded Ford models built with slightly different performance power and specifications.

Owners are being encouraged to use anti-theft devices such as steering wheel or brake pedal locks, or wheel clamps, to protect their cars from being targeted.

Officers confirmed that an ST model had been stolen from Hapton last night.

A spokesman for the force said: "We have had an increase in East Lancs of Ford ST cars being targeted, which has resulted in one being stolen from Hapton last night.

"If you own a Ford ST of any kind, please consider using a steering wheel brace or other methods to prevent thieves from targeting your vehicle."
