A SIXTH-form student has received a video call from Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs congratulating her on her results.

Birchwood College pupil Alex Everett is set to study for a degree at University Academy 92 in Manchester from September onwards after acing her BTECs in sport and business.

And Giggsy – who, alongside a host of former Class of 92 teammates such as Gary Neville and Paul Scholes, co-founded the newly-established uni – personally spoke to the 18-year-old via a video call in order to offer his congratulations on her success.

Alex, who has previously played as a goalkeeper for Manchester United Ladies’ u21s, said: “It’s been a fantastic day, first finding out that I got the results I need to start at UA92 next month and then receiving a call from Ryan Giggs.

“I can’t wait to get started with my degree.

“I’m looking forward to learning more about the psychological side of sport and how it influences performance.

“I’d like to go on to be a sports scientist or sports psychologist.

“At UA92, students are either morning or afternoon students – which will mean I’ll be able keep up with training and playing football whilst I’m studying, which is really important to me.”

The UA92 campus is located just a stone’s throw away from United’s Old Trafford stadium, and will reopen in September with social distancing measures in place and some classes delivered online.

Giggs added: “It was a real pleasure to speak to Alex and congratulate her on securing her place to study with us in just a few weeks’ time.

“On behalf of the Class of 92, I want to congratulate everyone who has received their exam results this summer after what has been a very strange and challenging time.

“We are looking forward to welcoming Alex and our other new and existing students to our Old Trafford campus next month and supporting them throughout their time at UA92.”
